Things to Stock Up On Before the TPD

Full implementation of the Tobacco Products Directive (TPD) is only 6 weeks away. From May 19th, all tanks over 2ml capacity, all e liquids over 10ml and all non-compliant kits will have to be removed from sale. It’s a sad state of affairs, but something we’re all going to have to deal with. If you’re unaware of the TPD, check out our guide.

However, there’s still time to stock up on things you may need to see you through until the legislation is (hopefully) repealed as part of Brexit and the Great Repeal Bill. So here are three things you may want to grab before they disappear.

1: 72mg Nicotine

DIY vapers have gotten used to using high strength nicotine when making e liquid. This is all about to change though because nicotine containing liquid will be limited to 18mg and 10ml. It’s by no means the end of the world, Nicotine Shots are now on the market to fill the void for those who use a nicotine strength of 9mg or lower. However, it’s worth stocking up on 72mg nicotine now, especially if you vape at above 9mg. Nicotine Concentrate can be put in the freezer to significantly extend its life, so consider buying enough to see you through a year or two.

*Some companies are confident of still being able to sell high strength nicotine after May 19th by selling on websites that have no other e cigarette type products for sale and marketing the nicotine as ‘not for human consumption’. This is because nicotine is regulated differently for its other uses. However, this may not last as e liquids are what the MHRA is the most concerned about, and will most likely crack down on these websites.

2: Large Capacity Tanks

Although there may be a way around the 2ml capacity rule with tank extension kits, this may not be a sustainable option going forward. All tanks will be limited to 2ml from May. Again, this isn’t devastating, many popular tanks such as Serpent Mini, Nautilus Mini and original Aspire Atlantis only held around 2ml of e liquid, but it is restrictive. So if you’ve got your eye on a new large capacity tank, or if your favourite tank holds more than 2ml, it’s worth getting hold of it now.

3: Coil Heads for Current Tanks

Technically speaking, coils heads for both compliant and non-compliant tanks are no longer considered to be part of the directive by the MHRA and can be sold openly. However, retailers will most likely move away from stocking coils for non-compliant tanks as they cannot stock the tanks themselves.
